Vitamin B-1 (Thiamin)

Vitamin B-1, also known as Thiamin, is one of a group of 8 water-soluble B-vitamins. It plays a critical role in metabolism and energy levels and is required to break-down carbohydrates. B Vitamins, especially B-1, B-2, B-5, and B-6, are best taken in combination, as they play codependent roles in energy production.

Thiamin is not produced internally by the body, so it must be consumed through diet and/or supplements. A small amount of Thiamin is stored in the liver, but the majority of ingested Thiamin is excreted within 24 hours, so it must be supplied on a regular basis through diet and/or supplementation. *

Food Sources: rice, nuts, legumes, pork chops, whole wheat pastas
